Silk Sarees & Their Types

Because silk sarees are so versatile, any woman can wear them to a wide range of events. No matter their age, whether they are young girls, newlyweds, middle-aged ladies, or even elderly folks, all women appear very fashionable in silk sarees. Women can choose the silk sarees that best fit them because they come in a variety of colors.

Due to their regal appearance, silk sarees are frequently preferred by women. Every woman wants to look beautiful and graceful when wearing a saree, and classic silk sarees have both in abundance. Whether you are getting dressed up for a festival or a wedding, the degree of elegance a silk drape imparts is incomparable. Most of the time, maintaining and caring for those sarees may seem tedious and difficult. Maintaining your sarees will be difficult, but the results will be spectacular. You will better understand the processes after reading this article.

Types of Silk Sarees

India has a variety of silk sarees; some are made of premium quality mulberry silk, whereas others are crafted with blended silk. Here are some types of silk sarees listed below -

  • Paithani Silk Sarees
  • Kanjivaram Sarees
  • Banarasi Silk Sarees
  • Mysore Silk Sarees
  • Tussar Silk Sarees

Tips & Tricks to Clean Your Paithani Silk Sarees

Once a beautiful piece of seven yards has been purchased, it needs to be handled carefully because it could be damaged by careless washing or storing. These are some important considerations for cleaning sarees.

  • Keep in mind that when you initially obtain your saree, you shouldn't wash it at all with soap.
  • The saree should be washed in plain water two to three times. The saree should then be rapidly cleaned with a very light detergent.
  • A saree should not be handled with a brush or lash since doing so will only result in the fabric tearing.
  • First, wash the border and pallu of the saree separately.
  • Do not bundle your sari. It is not advisable to combine a saree bundle with a choli (blouse) and petticoat.
  • Try not to soak it for too long.
  • Wash the saree as soon as you can in cold water if it starts to turn discoloured.
  • If the stain won't come out with soap and water, soak it in petrol and scrub the saree with a soft brush.
  • The heat setting for pressing your saree should be medium. Only push while maintaining a medium heat on the iron.
  • Your silk saris should be kept in a cool, dry area that has been covered with neem leaves.
  • To stop the zari from cracking, always change the saree fold once a month or more.

Tips to Remove Food Stains from Your White Sarees

Nothing is more energizing than wearing a spotless white tant, jamdani, or garad saree to an event. Yet, if you were negligent, a curry spill from your plate into the plush material could destroy your entire mood. Certain food stains are too difficult for cleaners and detergents to remove; they rarely or never do. Here is some helpful advice for handling these types of stains.

Apply a thick layer of white toothpaste over the stains on both sides of the fabric after wetting the stain spots with water. For 3 to 4 days, hang the saree to dry. Now, rinse the toothpaste off. It's good if the stain has totally disappeared.

Repeat the procedure if the stain is lighter but still discernible until it disappears. This method eliminates most oil, turmeric, and other food stains from white clothing without fading the material. For optimum results, use toothpaste that contains bleach.

How to Revive the Lost Sine in Silk Sarees

There is frequently a chance that the silk saree will lose its shine during the wash, whether you wash it yourself or have it dry-cleaned. These easy procedures might help your silk sarees regain some of their former lusters. In a clean bucket, prepare a weak solution of distilled white vinegar and lukewarm water (use 1 tablespoon of vinegar for every liter of water). Completely soak the saree in the vinegar solution for three to five minutes.

After removing the saree from the solution, thoroughly rinse it under cold running water. Ensure that all of the vinegar and its smell has been removed with water. The saree should be gently squeezed without twisting or wringing.

How can starched sarees be made less stiff?

When properly starched and ironed, wearing clean cotton sarees to meetings and formal occasions is always a delight. But starched sarees' rigidity might also make them difficult to handle. This frequently occurs with freshly made cotton sarees or some exceptionally delicate silks like garad or tussar. Here are some easy methods you can use to make your starched sarees less stiff.

  • Steam iron the saree if you want to soften it without fully eliminating the starch. Keep in mind to use the appropriate iron setting for the saree fabric.
  • Soak the saree in cold water for 30 minutes if you want the starch fully removed. To get rid of any starch residue, rinse, dry, and steam iron the saree.
  • Pour half a cup of distilled white vinegar into a pail of cold water and soak the saree for 30 minutes if it has been excessively starched. Following that, wash, dry, and steam iron the saree. It is now fluffy and devoid of starch!

Maintain your sarees to preserve them for longer. The better the maintenance, the better appearance the sarees provide.
